INDIO, CA — October 20, 2011 —

According to mydesert.com, Indio City Council chambers erupted with applause Wednesday night after the City Council approved 4-0 a two-year agreement with promoter Goldenvoice to hold the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach country music festival at the Empire Polo Club. Wednesday’s vote came after a two-week delay to appease La Quinta City Council members who asked Indio to delay the vote because they were concerned about detrimental environmental effects, such as increased dust, traffic and noise, on the surrounding residents. To satisfy La Quinta’s concerns, Goldenvoice revised the agreement, which now includes “monitoring by an independent third party of air quality, traffic and noise” for the 2012 concerts. That change satisfied La Quinta’s City Council which, on Tuesday, supported the contract.
