In addition to being called America’s favorite masked instrumental guitar band, Los Straitjackets really understands the importance of their fans and goes way beyond the call to make them part of the act.
In 2001, they led 20 intrepid fans on a tour of Spain, performing a concert in a wine storage cave. In 2003, they co-hosted a cruise to Baja Mexico with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers "The Ventures." In 2007, they held their first “Rock & Roll Summer Camp” as a way to give their followers a close up glimpse behind the mask.
That event was so well received, Los Straitjackets has announced that it will be holding its second “Rock & Roll Summer Camp” at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY August 25-28. The cam consists of 3 nights of shows at the Resort’s rustic lodge-like venue, and days filled with guitar workshops, jamming, and outdoor activities in the heart of the beautiful Catskill Mountains, the camp is designed for adults of all ages.
This year, the band will feature special guest Bill Kirchen. The noted telecaster wrangler is legendary as guitarist for Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen (and penned & sang their inimitable hit “Hot Rod Lincoln) but since then has been playing around the world under his name and the bands of Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello among others. Kirchen will perform backed by the Straitjackets, as well as conduct a workshop reflecting on his legendary career and guitar technique.
Los Straitjackets have been making their own special brand of raucous, instrumental rock since 1994 and have become known as one of the most dynamic and skillful instrumental bands on the planet. Their renowned live show is filled with mind-bending guitar theatrics, group choreography and fuzzed-out experiments in high fidelity rock and roll showmanship. Los Straitjackets most recent album is “The Further Adventures of Los Straitjackets” which was released by Yep Roc Records in April.
