It was a most interesting couple of days, a real whirlwind. My first assignment was to check out PLASA Focus: Nashville at the Nashville auditorium and then head over to Summer NAMM, (held July 12-14) which is the summer compliment to The NAMM Show held in Anaheim, CA in January.
Beyond the various musical instrument and product showings, the show provides dozens of complimentary professional development programs, the Top 100 Dealer Awards and an opportunity to listen to live music around the clock. According to NAMM’s post show press release “Energy and growth was mirrored on the manufacturing side with a 9% increase in exhibitors from 2011 to 2012. It was made up in part by many new and returning brands. In total, 372 exhibitors representing many more brands shared new products with buyers from around the world at Summer NAMM.”
Thanks to our social networking team and dozens of loyal followers, our twitter feeds were flush with a continuous stream of news items throughout the four days (thanks for all the retweets!). Here are some video highlights from the show covering a few of the major news items:
PreSonus Back “On The Air”
Back in January, PreSonus put together the first over, global live Web cast of The NAMM SHOW. That was so successful, they decided to bring the summer NAMM show to the web as well. All day Friday, the sights, sounds and virtual smells of NAMM were available simply by going to PreSonus.com. On thursday, I was able to secure a super secret pass to check out broadcast central and meet “The Man Behind The Curtain”, Paul Charbonnet. On the way, i stopped by the “Ear Trumpet Labs” booth to take a look at some very interesting mics from a highly innovative start-up company.

Over at the tc electronic’s booth, Laura Clapp Davidson had a cool new tool for vocalists to demonstrate:
Vintage + Rocket Science = ADK
Next, it was a stop at ADK mics where CEO Larry Villella pointed out the distinguishing features of his growing line of microphones.
Fishman Named Distributor for Asterope Cables.
Among the “Big Announcmements” at the show was an agreement naming Fishman as the exclusive distributor for Asterope Cables. Asterope claims their prodicts provide greater clarity, a browader frequency response and more dynamic harmonies. I decided to hear for myself and asked Dean Kline from Asterope to do this A/B comparison.
Wait – There’s More! – Outtakes and Random Shots
When NAMM returns to Nashville, July 11-13, 2013 the show will have a new home, the state-of-the-art convention center, Music City Center. Music City Center sits just south of Broadway on a 16-acre site adjacent toboth the Bridgestone Arena and the Country Music Hall of Fame and steps from the Ryman Auditorium and Broadway honky tonks where thousands of musical careers have launched.
