So, as the story goes, back in ’04, Jen was singing at various places around Chicago and guitarist Ray McKenzie during a java grab across the street from where they both worked.
Ray was getting a band together with his old friend and favorite drummer, Dean Cassara. The chemistry clicked and three have been growing their fan base in around the Windy City ever since. Their latest project, an EP entitled Shades of Grey, features five tracks that, upon first listen, are sure to take up residence in your head—I mean, it’s like I can’t stop my foot. Backing up Jen’s energized vocals and Ray’s guitar work, Dean lays down a driving groove that holds everything together like Gorilla glue. The group’s sound is a well-balanced mix of pop and funk, very contemporary yet with a bit of sweet sixties overtones. It was tough picking a track to add our WL2P playlist… but, as usual, funk wins. Our choice “Down By The Water.” Jen Justic Band’s website
